Coaching for Lawyers Law Practice Tip

Law Practice Tip #266

Let Checklists do the thinking for you

To make sure that every time something is done itís done consistently and without mishap, set up systems using checklists for every procedure that you and your staff perform. Checklists are the basis for an excellent, well-run practice that is both mistake-free and less stressful. No matter how good your memory, reduce your stress by not relying on it for everything.

In his book, The Checklist Manifesto: How To Get Things Right, Atul Gawande writes of doctors and airline pilots saving lives using checklists. If doctors and airline pilots can use checklists in the midst of emergencies to save lives, then lawyers can use checklists to protect their clientís lives too.

You can use checklists to screen new clients, prepare for motions, complete transactions, and delegate effectively.

What further checklists will you establish and use with your practice management systems and software?
