Coaching for Lawyers Law Practice Tip

Law Practice Tip #260

Control your time by saying “no” to things you want

There are so many things we want in our law practice – great clients, more money, interesting issues to deal with, more referrals (we don't want to disappoint a referral source by saying “no” to a client they referred).

Continuing to say “yes” to all these things leads to filling your plate too full, just like eating at a buffet with too many great choices leads to being stuffed. Learning to say “no” to things you want is the most difficult step in controlling your time. If you've already succeeded at saying “no” to difficult clients or boring work, the next step is to say “no” to things you want.

What will help you control your time by saying “no” to the things you want?
